The driver’s test was invented in France. In 1893, drivers of all self-propelled vehicles had to undergo an exam that tested driving and vehicle-repair ability. Donald F Duncan, the man who made the yo-yo an American tradition, is also credited with popularizing the parking meter (yeah, thanks). In 1899, the Belgian Jenatzy became the first driver to reach a speed of over 100 kilometers per hour. He was driving his electrically powered car La Jamais Contente.
